Atychiphobia: The Fear Of Failure
Every sane human being in the world would want anything they do to be successful from regular activities and simple aspirations to the big ones. Moreover, no sane person would want himself to fail. You may want and wish other people to fail but not you. Every success we make boosts our confidence and every failure we make is a bullet shot to our confidence.
When a person suffers from so much failure he tends to develop a phobia. Atychiphobia is the fear of failure. It is also known as kakorrhaphiophobia.
Like every other phobias, Atychiphobia can be traced from past experiences; experiences that can cause enough trauma to a person for him to develop a phobia like being demeaned or humiliated by parents or other family members and relatives. Or events where in the person suffered from great embarrassment. Continuous failure and embarrassment even if it’s only minor is enough to make someone fearsome which will then build within the subconscious. Those who suffer from this phobia have limited activities and little aspirations in life. Their fear of failure prohibits them from doing things. They usually get fired from their jobs and people expect less from them until they are just in the dark corners.
Antychiphobia may develop unnoticed. By the time you realized that your fear for failure keeps you from achieving things you already developed a phobia. Those people with this phobia presents with symptoms of feeling of dread, panick, shaking and anxiety. Some of them have palpitations, sweating, nausea, and dizziness and sometimes when in the verge of fear and panic they faint. The known most effective means of treating Antychiphobia is self-talk or self- help together with motivational techniques. Introspective is a great way to train one’s subconscious and to help boost one’s confidence. Of course, therapies like this are more effective when aided by a professional. Medications can be prescribed but won’t give a permanent solution. The self-help, hypnotherapy, Neuro-linguistic programming and energy psychology all aim to reprogram the mind so the subconscious will stop attaching your fear to your negative emotions. A part of the treatment is going back to the root of the phobia and facing the phobia.
No one wants to fail that is a sure thing. We all want to be successful. However, failure is inevitable to humans. Like the adage goes, “No one is perfect”. Failure comes our way. We will meet it on our way to success or our goal. Failures come not to stop us from achieving something and stop us from dreaming. Failures come to teach us something. It should make us better and tougher. When we fail, we have to learn to learn why we failed and move on. Your parents, your relatives, your friends and the people around you may demean you, embarrass you but also remember that if you let their words take over you it would be your life that would be destroyed not their lives. You are the captain of your ship, they are the waves. Waves come, but you still have to continue sailing for if you let those waves stop you, you will either be submerge into the ocean or your will be stocked and you will never reach your destination.
