Achieve Success with God Sized Dreams and Goals
What does it mean to have God sized dreams? Is it ridiculous to think that a human being can dream on the same level as God? What does that look like? I’m not talking about physical size; I’m talking about mental capacity. We are human, and that is not meant to be funny, but everything we do and everything we know has a beginning and an end. Everything we have in our lives is finite. Everything we have accomplished or failed at has had a beginning and an end. The end of every process comes with congratulations or condemnation but eventually we have to move on to the next big thing. The only thing we have that we can always count on to be there is God.
So what does a God sized dream look like? Is there a difference between a ‘God Sized’ dream and a ‘God Led’ dream? I think that distinction is what makes a dream ‘God Sized’. I think that a dream placed on your heart by the creator of the universe is not something you can complete on our own. I think God creates each person with a specific purpose and he places in our soul the desire to complete that purpose. That longing, that inner voice, that piece of you that cannot be silenced, that dream that you refer to lightly and without regard was placed in you by your creator.
Hebrews 12:1-2 says “…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus…”
Now I’m not suggesting that the bible is exclusively referring to goal setting in this verse. What I am saying is that as a bible believer and someone that feels God’s word is inspired, I believe that this verse is referring to the God Sized plan he has set forth for you, and that the plan has more to do with the Kingdom of God that it does with your own personal success. So, throwing off everything that hinders you might mean looking past your own pride or fear. It might mean you have to take time from your hectic schedule to actually get closer to God so you can hear his calling. You might have to actually make the effort, so you can properly interpret what God’s dream is for you. That’s the rub…it might be a God sized dream we were originally looking for but in reality it is actually God’s dream. His dream is beyond our comprehension. We like to put things in categories that we can justify. God sized dreams rely on our faith and the strength of our convictions.
Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Faith is a concept we understand but rarely act upon. Humans are wired to have faith but our pool of experiences leaves us with doubts and questions arising from past failures and unfulfilled promises. The problem with our expectation is that we have based them on experiences we have had with other humans. Other humans that are fallible and have also based their life’s work on other bad experiences. The cycle hurts more than your dreams; it has a direct impact on the lives of everyone you come in contact with. Have you ever met that person that truly believes? I’m not necessarily limiting the scope of the question to someone that believes in God. I mean someone that truly believes in anything. There are millions of people in just as many different circumstances but some of those in desperate times have decided to believe. They believe they will succeed or they believe in God or they believe their circumstances will get better; they believe so passionately about something that simply listening to them talk makes you believe it too. They have faith so powerful that it pours out of them and spills onto you. You can’t help it, their passion is contagious.
God sized dreams are placed in us. God sized dreams require us to have faith in Him. God sized dreams are for His glory. God sized dreams are not for our edification. God sized dreams will stretch you in directions you never thought possible. God sized dreams will have a lasting impression on your entire sphere of influence. God sized dreams force us to admit that it is not all about me. Live with God sized dreams and then believe that God will help you achieve everything you ever dreamed…well everything He ever dreamed.
